What’s in a Name?

Our chosen name is Burlington Ubuntu Grandwomen.  We are a group of women of all ages concerned about the plight of the grandmothers in Sub-Saharan Africa who are victims of HIV/AIDS.  Moved to action by Stephen Lewis’s “Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign,” we are committed to increasing awareness,  building solidarity and raising funds. To be inclusive of all women not just those who are grandmothers, we are called Grandwomen.  The name Ubuntu is an African word that means our humanity is interconnected.  For more information about the meaning of this word click here.

This non-profit group is registered with the Stephen Lewis Foundation so that all donations go directly to the Foundation which issues income tax receipts.
